How to Become a Better Writer in English Part 2: News Story Wednesday, February 11, 2009

In yesterday's class we listened to Elvis sing Suspicious Minds and you got to fill in the blanks. You're getting pretty good at catching lyrics, aren't you? We also read parts of this Wikipedia article on Elvis . We read the first paragraph and then we focused on how Elvis died (scroll down to the headline "Final year and death"). It is still a matter of debate what caused his death.

Your homework for tomorrow is to read the Wikipedia article again and underline the most important parts - the parts of the article that should be included in our News Story.

A news story
- tells about a recent event or issue
- provides facts
- answers the following six questions:

1. Who was involved?
2. What happened?
3. When did it happen?
4. Where did it happen?
5. Why did it happen?
6. How did it happen?

Please study the handout I gave you and the sample news story: Saving of Boy Attacked by Shark.

See you in class tomorrow!
