- lunch-time everybody comes crowding round. (tränga ut)
- becauce social workers are not into criticizing. (kritisk)
- Mum and Dad used to live in naval quarters. (flottbas/vid sjön)
- "You can wear a shirt if you haven't got a smock. (skyddsrock)
- ans giving me these encouraging. (uppmntrande)
- she wants to say something crucial. (mycket viktigt)
- the flowers written in the pattern too and a green candlewick. (mönster)
- she got these prospectuses. (broschyr/prospekt)
- Dad totally berserked. (vild/galen)
- First it's the nurse weighing me and taking my specimen. (bedöma) (prov)
- and says she's got to make further enquiries. (längre fram/mer) (undersöka)
- work out the best thing under the circumstances. (omständighet)
- who says he's got this very busy schedule. (tidsplan)

"You said you wouldn't want to come home if I kept it."
"I didn't say that.""You did, Billy, you did. So it's your fault if I don't keep my baby. My voice is all pecuilar andhigh because could be Dad is telling lies. A pause.
"I don't see that..." Billy says and Dad takes the phone like I don't exist."
"Billy? It's the way he says it fills my eyes with tears.

I choosed this sentence because I fully understand her feelings and I understand that it's a hard situation to have a brother who doesn't like her pregnancy. Because of that she is uncertain about herself and she always thinking about the baby, if she will keep it och have it adopt.

My word list

Clear, blue eyes squinted half closed against the sun.(kisa)

The jovial note in his voice was so att odds with my own emotions that I couldn´t begin….(gladlynt)

“I´ll try” I said reluctantly.(motvilligt)

We continued to drive for another half hour or so, making sporadic attempts at casual conversation.(tillfäligt, som förekommer då och då)

My eyes snapped open, and I glanced in bewilderment from one side of….

This is lisette, I tought incredulously. ( ??)

The staircase itself was built of Louisiana cypress, my father informed me, sounding as proud of the fact as if he had hewn the tree himself, and the banister was of a rich, dark mahogany of such fine grain… (hugga) (ledstång)

After the pressures of the day, clammy heat was affecting me like a sedative. ( lugnande medel)

Cloud wisps blew through my groggy mind like whirlig shreds of cotton, and a canopy of oak leaves closed above me. (takhimmel, valv)

When I awoke, the air had grown somewhat cooler and the room was soft with the gentle hues of twilight. (färgton) ( halv
Mörkt)
Getting up from the bed, I placed the framed photograph carefully on the bureau top and went across the bath room…..(byrå)

Now, though, cinching in the belt and swaying my hips a little to cause the soft material to swirl out away from my legs, ….(??)

Glowering, josie turned on her heel and stalked out of the room.(blängande)

“You and I had a whirlwind courtship”, Lisette reminded him.(??)

My heart gave an odd little jump as I gazed across at Gabe.(stirrade)

“ The shocking word that flashed through my mind has death”

When I read that I knew that this book could only get better. It stars to make you think a lot of thing like, the stepmother maybe evil and will try to kill nore or something like that.. And later in the book you find out that they have a secret and that makes you want to read more.

2.My God ,it’s the middle of May”, she whispers and there’ hard bits in her arms now like you see steel springs (sticking) out of comfy old sofa.
Extending out above or beyond a surface or boundary

3.“What?” says Dad and he really (berserks) then.
Were Norse warriors who were commonly understood to have fought in an uncontrollable rage or trance of fury; the berserker gang.

5.“It was that party,” Mum says. “That night you (fetched) her.”

6.“Whose fault was that?” I say and I, m crying now but “I, m (steaming) livid too.
"Steaming cooking" redirects here.

7.Like he’s been (sulking) now for nine years.
A mood or display of sullen aloofness or withdrawal; "stayed home in a sulk"

8.I can just make out my signed (piccie) of Mark.
(“Tart) “And “whore”. It’s as if he wants me to hate myself.
, A tart is a pastry dish, usually sweet, that is a type of pie with an open top that is not covered with pastry. The Tarte Tatin is a particular kind of "upside-down" tart, of apples, other fruit, or onions.
9.“You (rampant) little devil, you, “Dad said all admiring.” Yes”, I say, “but I’m skint.”

10.(Raving) might be the best thing for Terry.

11. We (snog) for a bit and then we talk for a bit and Jim tells me about his sister.
This article is about a band. Snog also means in British slang, to tongue kiss.

“We could if you wanted?” Jim whispers. 2 mean you don’t have worry about getting pregnant, do you?”
“I don’t want to, “ I say and sit up.
“What do you want?” says Jim and his eyes glint all mean and the moon is smaller now. “The others’ve been getting it all week. Isn’t as if you were a virgin or nothing.”
“What about Aids?” I say.
“But I swear I never ever done it,” Jim whispers looking over his shoulder. “So how you going to get Aids?”
I, m going home, “ I say and get up.
“Please don’t Terry,” Jim says and his voice breaks.
Sorry, I say and he sits there throwing stones in the sea and I walk back. Why shouldn’t I do what I want?

What she did it was very brave that she takes hers responsibility of hers decision.
She is just sixteen but she did a big mistake and she learned from hers mistake.
She just sixteen but she did a big thing that she never ever forgot because it’s not easy to get pregnant when she don’t ready for the thing and it’s too early, and she can’t believe if he had Aids or not because every times when she ask him and hi was hesitated. Every boys are dogs because the first think they thinking about is just to enjoying themselves, they believe that women are animal. I mean they are just after to sleep a couple ours with women and then they don’t know the women and good bay may lady”.
After all this is the women’s responsibility to take care about them.
I think Jim was just after to sleep with Terry, he don’t care about anything, he don’t thinking what can to happened after, but Terry did. I ‘m so happy for her and I hope that every women or teenager to think before they do what they want then to take the chance to change theirs dream or whatever.

I liked the first page of the bok.

Locked in time Thursday, November 27, 2008

I'm reading "Locked in time" and I think the book is good this far. I think the book is exciting and I wanna read it all the time.

My wordlist:
1) I know the statement sounds vain = fåfängt
2) Bursting into his office to reassure myself that he had not vanished during my absence = frånvaro
3) The latch was stuck = ?
4) Would have had no business accommodating my father = rätta sig efter
5) Gave it a feeling of airy spaciousness = rymlighet
6) There stood a sofa upholstered in rose-colored velvet = stoppa/klä(möbler) - sammet
7) I breathed int he scent of gardenias = ?
8) It was so foreign to me that it was almost inconceivable = ?
9) A canopy of oak leaves closed in above me = valv
10) Dad´s income had leapt well into the six-figure bracket = ?

14) The old Creole families consider themselves aristocracy = grupp av aristokrater
15) Their ancestors came here directly = förfäder
16) To watch a full moon rise slowly and majestically out of the trees = ?

The quote I chose was:

"Mother," I said, " what are you doing here? You´re suposed to be dead!"
" Not to you," the familiar voice said matter-of-factly. "I'm not dead to you, Nore. Now listen, because I have something important to tell you. I want you to repack your things and leave Shadow Grove immediately."
"Leave Shadow Grove?" I exclaimed. " But I´ve only just got here! Dad wants me to spend the summer. In September, I´ll be going back to school in New England."
"By September, it will be too late," my mother told me. "You and your father are both in terrible danger. You must talk to dad, you must tell him!"

I chose this quote because it made the entire book more exciting. Since I read that I've been wanting to read the book all the time, so I can find out why Nore and her father are in trouble, and what is going to happen with them.

Talk show comment

This morning we watched 4 different talk shows in class. Despite the fact that some people did not show up to class, those of you who did managed to work out your shows anyway.

I liked the fact that you did your best to take yourselves seriously. It is always a lot more fun to watch! The best performers were the ones that without a manuscript managed to "act" your roles instead of just reading your lines. A couple of you also did a nice job filling in for missing group members.

Good points in your shows:

  • You took yourselves seriously
  • Good ideas/topics
  • Good pronunciation
  • The shows were fun to watch
  • Well developed manuscripts

Areas of improvement:

  • Rehearse/practise more to be able to act more naturally
  • Take responsibility, help each other in the group, make sure you do your "job" in the group, be sure to show up to class for the presentation (if you don't show up you not only jeopardize your own grade, you also make life harder for the other members of the group which is unfair).
  • Grammar (especially when asking questions like "How did you feel?" and using verbs in different tenses).

Someone else´s baby!

Here are some diffecault words!

1, Then we are sitting on te sofa in te livingroom which is all chintzy.( ? )
2, I ought to have told you.( bör )
3, Our faces are all pink and blotchy. (? )
4, This is what your foetus was like last February( embryo )
5, Mum with tapestry and the atmosphere is relly electric. ( väggbonad )
6, Anyway it went off so well i´m high as a kite. ( drake/leksak)

"What says dad and he relly berkserks then. Thats all i need. Bloddy little tart. It´s always you isn´t it. Nothing but trobble from start to finish."

I took this quote because i think that the dad was relly mean, saying sutch a things to his daughter. I understand that he got mad but i dont think that those words make it anny easier for Terry. I just think as a parent you dont say those things to you child.

Locked in Time

I'm reading the book "Locked in Time" and here are some words I picked out that I thought might be useful to know:

I don't have many talents, but one that I do posses is an acute awaraness of time. (skarp)

Now, though, cinching in the belt and swaying my hips a little to cause the soft material to swirl away from my legs, I felt pleased with my mental picture of how I must look. (dra åt)

There was strident edge to Lisette's voice.
(skärande, genomträngande)

"Well, that's stupid," Josie shot back belligerently. (stridslysten, aggressiv)

The peace and seclusion at Shadow Grove might be appealing to adults, but for a youngster Josie's age, it meant being cut off from any chance for a normal social life. (avstängande, isolering)

"Not me!" I said vehemently, not certain whether or not he was joking. (häftigt, våldsamt, lidelsefullt)

I chided myself. (banna, skälla på)

With difficulty, I kept from wincing. (rycka till, grimasera)

Turning abruptly, she glanced into her shopping cart with an expression of chagrin. (förargad, irriterad)

The quote I chose was:
"Watching the silent interplay between mother and children, I experienced once again the feeling that I was missing out on something. It was as though these three family members had known each other so long and so intimately that they no longer found it necessary to communicate with words."

They seem to share a very strange past together and they have a strange way of communicating with ecah other, just like she, Nore, says that they don't even find it necessary to speak with each other. It's like just looking at each other, they know what they are saying without using any words at all.
I think they definitely share some sort of a secret that no one can know about.
Why I chose this particular quote was because that's when I started to suspect the hole Bergé-family. I knew something was wrong from then.

Locked in time

I am reading the book Locked in time, written by Lois Duncan. I have just read the first five chapters and so far I think that the book seems to be really good.

Here is my wordlist:

The slanting, afternoon sunlight glinted off the windshield and rendered it opaque. (otydlig)

Clear, blue eyes squinted half closed against the sun. (kisa)

The latch that had never worked easily for my mother would have had no business accommodating my father now. (tillmötesgående)

The jovial note in his voice was so at odds with my own emotions that I couldn’t begin to respond to it. (gladlynt)

This road was bracketed by shrubs and pine woods, and the sky beyond them gleamed with the odd iridescent sheen of sunlight being fed through a prism. (regnbågsskimrande)

It was a question, I knew, that I had no business pondering. (begrunda, tänka över)

Lisette had been so adamant about the fact that Shadow Grove was home to her that I couldn’t imagine her consenting to move to Guilderland. (orubblig)

Her departure was followed by an uncomfortable silence. (avfärd)

Lisette hade not turned out to be the “wicked stepmother” that I had anticipated. (förvänta sig)

“Not me!” I said vehemently, not certain whether or not he was joking. (häftigt, våldsamt)

“So, what have you two early birds been doing?” she asked with a show of casualness. (nonchalant)

I can take an occasional break to check on the workmen. (tillfällig)

My quote:

This is Lisette, I thought incredulously. This is my father’s wife. “Be her friend,” Dad had begged me. “Will you try?”. Now, as I sat, staring at my stepmother, I suddenly realized that this choice was not going to be mine to make.

- I chose this quote because it proves that Nore is in a difficult situation. She doesn’t like the fact that her father has a new wife, but she doesn’t want to make her dad disappointed, although she doesn’t want to have a new “mom” or family. From now on, Lisette was the one who would be making the decisions at Shadow Grove and Nore would not be able to influence the decisions at all.

I am reading "Someone else's baby" and I think that this book is very interesting. When I am reading it I can feel her imotions and I feel sorry for her. I always like this kind of books, I think that it is important to see peoples problem and to learn how to solve difficult problems like this. Thats why I really like to read books.

My word list:

-"Her eyes would shine like stars and we'd gaze at the spot where her finger pointed".(Stirra)

-"I seem to remember you promised to take them for a run on the common every morning?"(Vanlig, allmän, enkel)

-"You're off on holiday in a fortnight, aren't you?"(fjorton dagar)

-" they both look at me for a moment and Fran has this sprout halfway to her mouth" (grodd, groddar, bön grodd)

-Anyway I get home that night and I'm still feeling fluttery inside on and off. (smicker)

-"Good grief" he says and I just sit there smiling like yhe Virgin Mary with this fluttering going on inside me. (sorg, bedrövelse) (fladdra)

- He smiles nicely so there's little fans of lines at the edges of his eyes. (sprids) (rand)

-" My god, it's the middle of May" she whispers and there's hard bits in her arms now like you see steel springs sticking out of comfy old sofas. (fjädring) (sticka) (Hittar inte ordet).

-"I'm pregnant," I sob, and she shudders as if somebody'd poured glass of coul water down her back. (snyft) (skaka) (person som häller)

-"This is the 1990s and single parenthood is quite a commonplace,"(förälder by) (alldaglig)

-"Sometimes even the preferred optinon for an independent gril. (föredra) (val) (självständig)

-Perhaps you'd like to make an appointment for the ante-natal clinic as you go out. (förordnade)

-Mum's eyes are riveted by the girls at the next table. ( nit)

-Anyway the baby is yelling quite franic and everybody's looking. (desperat)

- Phoebe takes a feeding bottle out of her jacket and goes round all the tables pouring dregs of milk left in the jugs. (skvätt, droppe) (behållare)

-Then she yanks the buggy flat. (vaggar) (barnvagnen)

-Goldie's quite ecstatic when we get home. (extatisk)

-Suddenly I see this bloke in the bushes and what he's doing. (kille, karl)

-And if Mum stood up to Dad once in a while I wouldn't be so fuming mad. (vara rasande).

" Do you really like me? I can never stop myself to asking stupid questions. "Why do you like me?" Jim swoops lika a bird and kisses me. "Sorry"he mutters. I shouldn't have done that."
"Why not?" I say and my heart is racing.

This part showhowbad selfconfidence she have.
She asks this questions because she want to be confirm off him I think. It is not easy to going through this things when you don't have someone to talk to serious. She is very uncertain in her self because her mother and father they affect her and they want to do the choice in her place.

Our program on Thursday is about two girls who lost their mother and lived with their father which were bad for them. They are going to express their anger and find out why she left them without no reasons. The girls were very young and they couldn't understand as much.

You can't miss it on Thursday!

by: Faisa, Sara, Inas & Nadja.

I'm reading Someone Else's Baby and I think it's a interesting book and I want to read more and more.

My word list:

- "Teresa must learn not to procrastinate." (skjuta upp)

- "Would you like an egg this morning?" she says all brisk. (livlig)

- "I've got this plastic bottle of specimen all ready." (exemplar)

- "I didn't get the sack." (sparken)

- Besides I'm scared shitless I'll giggle. (fnittra)

- Mum says jerikly and I'm astonished. (häpen/förvånad)

- "I don't deal in hypotheticals." (hypotetisk)

- Dr Robinson says and I'm totally chuffed. (förnöjd)

- I bought these groovy red earrings which unclip and do as bangles too. (armring)

- Anyway the baby is yelling quite frantic and everybody's looking. (tjut) (förfärlig)

- they jump back all bristling and the woman grabs it. (hängiven) (grepp)
- "It's disgraceful". (skandalös)

- my mouth has sort of seized up. (hugga/gripa)

- is good as an announcement. (meddelande/anmälan)

- Hallo lady of leisure. (ledighet)

- Boys their age are entitled to a home. (benämna)

- and the thing inside is quiet and maybe it's frightened. (förskräckt)

- Then we snog some more. (kela/krama)

- dogs and it's lying on its vack and shrieking. (tjut)

- But suddenly they start yelping. (skall)

- Mum's eyes are riveted by the girls. (fästa)

- and goes round all the tables pouring. (hälla upp)

- she says is very concealing. (dölja/gömma)

- I'm astonished. (överraskad)

- cool and dry and sort of scrapy like a fluttering mouth. (bråka) (nervös)

"I'm pregnant," I say and I stick out my tummy which I've been holding in all day. Holding in ever since February. "Christ," Jim says and cracks his fingers which I can't stand.
"Are you going to keep it or what?"
"It's my baby"

This text told me that it can be hard to do some choice like she have to do as soon as possible. She have to choice if she want to keep the baby or if she want to have an abortion. It would be very hard for her.

"Why on earth didn't you tell me?"
"I didn't want to upset you," I say.
"Upset me?" Her voice was right up. "Upset me?"

This text shows that the mum had been worried about her daughter and angry because she haven't told her mum that she's pregnant.

jag förstår inte läxan du får förklara den.

I changed my mind... Saturday, November 22, 2008

..about the gadgets in the blog for those of you who saw them. They were a bit annoying so I removed them.

Hii, I´m reading Locked in time and so far I think it´s really good. It´s getting more and more exiting and I can´t wait to read the rest of it.

Here is my word list:

-the out-of-doors gave it a feeling of airy spaciousness. (rymlighet)

My quotes, I had to chose two:

"I stared into those luminous eyes, and a chill shot through me. What I saw there was not the promise of friendship, but of something strange and sinister. The shocking word that flashed through my mind was death."

-This "quote" kind of told me that this was going to be an exciting novel to read. I feelt som tention and I really wanted to continue reading the next chapter.

"Watching the silent interplay between mother and children, I experienced once again the feeling that I was missing out on something. It was though these three family members had known each other so long and so intimately that they no longer found it necessary to communicate with words."

- This part kind of gave me the chills. Because you have already started to wonder if they have been living for a really long time. And you are starting to link them to the titel of the novel " Locked in time ". It´s just getting better and better.

No classes on Wednesday Nov 26

On Wednesday Nov 26, as you know, there are no classes. Plenty of time for you to read your novels and work on your talk show, then!

Just to clarify the previous posts about the novel: you do not need to look up every single word that is difficult in your novel. That will slow down your reading too much and you will be extremely bored. But do make sure you look up words that are important to your understanding of the context (sammanhanget). Some of the words that you look up in the beginning will come back later on. The more you read, the more you will understand.

Please feel free to ask questions using the commentary button :) Good luck!

Åsa on the Obama speech Saturday, November 15, 2008

I have now commented on your posts on the Barack Obama speech. Overall, you did a good job analyzing his speech. Those of you who wrote the most interesting posts made personal comments and you also quoted parts of the speech to enhance what you were saying.
A tip to improve your writing: Try to avoid only talking about the speech in general terms when analyzing it. To make a good post you need to address both general ideas as well as details.
In class we read about Rosa Parks and here is the text message that was being passed around amongst Obama supporters after his victory:
"Rosa sat so Martin could walk. Martin walked so Barack could run. Barack is running so our children can fly."
Once you know who Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King were that quote makes a lot more sense. I just love it. It says a lot in very few words, doesn't it?

Please note: I am missing the speech analyses from the following members: Mich4, Seham, Jennifer, Jasmine, Donna and Natalie.

Plan, write and act out your talk show episode: live November 27 at 8:30 am Wednesday, November 12, 2008

Have you seen talk shows like The Jerry Springer Show, Oprah, Dr Phil and The Tyra Banks Show? During a couple of classes we are going to work with talk shows.

Instructions:
· Work in groups of four (some will be five). Group 1: Faiza, Aynas, Sara E, Nadja Group 2: Zuhrie, Sara F, Emma, Jennifer, Donna Group 3: Frida, Gjulsha, Jenny, Sandra Group 4: Marlin, Layla, Jemma, Gjejlan, Maria Group 5: Michelle, Seham, Jasmine, Natalie
· Give your “show” a name.
· Decide a theme (a topic of discussion)for your show. (Usually it is some kind of problem that needs to be worked out.)
· Write a detailed manuscript of “who says and does what”. Remember to use a vocabulary suited for television (no cussing and swearing).
· Your show should have a talk show host and three (or four) guests.
· The episode should be around 5-7 minutes long.
· EVERYONE needs to take a speaking part in the show. Practise to make it sound and look natural. Take yourselves and your audience seriously.
· Your talk show will be “aired” in class on Thursday 27 November at 8:30. No other time is available.

No later than Wednesday 26 November I need a written presentation of every group’s episode in the blog. Summarize what your show will be about in a blog post. Make the viewers interested in your show (advertise it and "sell it"!) so that they will be excited about coming to class to watch it live.

Make sure everyone in the group has a copy of the manuscript - just in case.

I will be evaluating your ability to come up with an idea, write a manuscript together, summarize your ideas in a blog post + your oral performance in class.

Barack Obama

I think that the purpose of his speech is that each one must have confidence and have to choose right from its internal innermost themselves about what the person wants, but it should also be together to make it stronger for every one share with them their own thoughts and desires. Purpose is to treat each other in a similar way that means that there should be equality, regardless of age, gender or skin color that everyone is actually equal.

I think he fits in the style of a president and he seems to have new ideas and believe he will change throughout America so that the whole world can always have the idea that Obama and the entire population of America was right that everything is possible in America

He pointed out all the time that "yes we can" he means that everything in America is not possible to think or even say that nothing is impossible, but if you just want to fight together and then we can actually win the whole fight, no matter how difficult it can be. He would like to listen to what others think especially when they disagree with, so that he, together with the people doing so they go in and try to find a solution because everything is possible.

He uses very strong words to describe much and that means a lot to those who listen and are really concerned and even to cry. He uses emotional situations that are real and have these people to live into the situation. What he wants to convey is that this victory belongs not only to him but it belongs to the people themselves, and he will never forget this. Although America has seen much and suffered so much want him to never give up

He is trying to get these people to forget the past and he will not make use of it in the future because America's people have suffered enough. But now he has gone through the files that belong to churches and schools to improve, and because America has done a lot and seen a lot and it will come more and will be very together, he wants to change and he has promised to do his best but he also need support and help from his own people. He wants all the changes that happen to belong to both parts he does not want to calculate themselves only as president but also one of the people. He wants each one to raise his voice and that it is heard, that everyone should be proud of themselves. Therefore, he won the victory because of his strong accent.

Comments & opinions
What I liked his accent was when he said that all are equal regardless of gender, age, skin color, rich or poor, etc.. If all had really listened to what he means, then I believe all these conflicts between the people would cease. I really hope he keeps his promise and do not cheat despite that he seems to be honest and reliable. like the man whos name is Martin Luther King and his speech from 1963.

The speech of Obama.

The main message is of the speech.

The importened message is that Obama really cares about the soccity in amerika but it's unfear too Obama after all he wants like the people .a greater country and do what ever he can about the financil crisis during these 3years he got.He also talkes about the road is going too be long because of all things he hs too do for exmple: bring all the soldiers back from Irak and afghnistan too their homes like it should be.
"In front of everything I belives in amerika that the country will success in one way or another and I'm going to listen to all the people,it's not even the victory we seek or the changing but it's us people have the chance to make a different in this country."
He knows that many of the people is going too disagree with his decision and he will listen to them and her what they have to say about it.Then solve all the problems but he is going to be honest about ll the challenges they are going to face in the future and even now.above it all he asked if they will join him of remaking the whole nation how it has been for the two-hundred and twenty-one yers. One of the bright plan for the peoples goodness is that they should have work and not a single one not working.
This one of quotation that really affect me by Lincoln, "We are not enemies, but friend...though passion my have strined it must not brek our bonds of ffection."

The meaning of that sentence is we are friends what ever happens and how struggling it cn be it shouldn't break our bond with each other and our opinions. It affects me because it's wrong of the people too fight each other it should be the other way,it shouldn't matter where you come from. The personality should matter, how you are to others they should threat you tht way too.

Barack obama

1. The purpose of his speech was that he wanted people around the world and mainly amrikanska population that they should have an understanding that the USA needs to change. And he also mentioned that he had not afforded to have much money or were not a lot of support from a particular direction. Which means that America is democratic country and nothing can change the rules so there is nothing that people would suspect that it had happened behind closed doors so there was no fraud. But the only real help he received of all the others who tried to help him as much as they can to achieve the targets. The U.S. has more people from different countries, where there are no differences between them, and all are equally worthy.

2. He tries to convey to the people, the real strength of the nation it did not come from their starch by the arms or the amount of wealth, but they have but it came through the demotic and freedom, opportunity and hope is unwavering. Given that America can change. By People's Party, the Union would be perfect what we have done can be very helpful to give us hope for the future

3. He tries to refer to our time to donate various doors and that Building the country and handing out freedom. He knows that all it is difficult and takes time to process all the difficulties, but he has strong will to cope with everything especially if he has people on his side and support him. He also told that he will always be honest with their people and listening to their views.

4. What I most liked on this speech was that he tried to show for all his love for his country and his dear wife, and has said even his campaign. it shows that he has not forgotten those who support jade him when he needed their help. He also said that there is no segregation between whites and blacks.

Barack Obama’s speech

The main message of Barack Obama's victory speech is to make a change. To improve the country at all levels and make it a safer place for the population. With some cooperation, they can make a change together. Obama will fight for a better country, a country with equal rights. It dosen't matter where you came from, if you are black or white, gay, straight, disabled or not disabled. Everyone should have the same rights and be treated the same way.
He wants to fight for the financial difficulties that America has been exposed of. In eight years, America has suffered out of financial difficulties. This is still a big problem in America. But Obama has promised to do something about this. And this are going be the first thing that he will be deal with.
I think a lot of people voted for Obama because of this. What Ameica needs right now is a change. But I also think that a lot of people elected Obama as a president because of his good experience, his calmness and his positive thoughts and hopes. He make his listeners to believe in a change. The population has high expectations, and Obama has for now a hard job to deal with. I hope that he reaches his goal and
doesn’t make his people disappointed.

Barack Obama is a very good speaker. To reach his fellow creatures, he uses a language that’s easy for the population to understand. He uses a simple vocabulary and avoid complicated words. In this way, people can understand his message easier. This even broadens his audience. By speaking in a language everyone understands, he also reaches the younger people in the country. Barack Obama speaks in a very skilful way. He sounds calm, but still convincing. What he says really comes from the heart.

In Barack Obama’s victory speech, he talks about a woman whose name is Ann Nixon Cooper. She is 106 years old and still alive. She has seen a lot of changes in America during all her years. In some way you can say that this is a living proof that nothing is impossible. What Ann experienced in her childhood, doesn’t exists today. This is because of all the changes that America has been through. To change something can take a long time, maybe years. But in the end it’s worth all the effort and toil. I think that Obama uses these particular references becaus he wants to prove that they can make this changes together. All they have to do is fight for their rights!

"And to those Americans whose support I have yet to earn - I may not have won your vote, but I hear your voices, I need your help, and I will be your president too." I chose this part of the text because I thought it has a beautiful sense. It shows that he cares about the entire population and even about the people who didn’t voted of him. He knows that they might be a little bit disappointed, and although he didn’t won their votes, he says that he hear their voices, need their help and will work with them too.

My question: Do you think that Barack Obama was elected as a president because of his personality, or because of the peoples desperation to get rid of the financial difficulties?

Barack Obama´s victory speech!

1.The main massage of the speek i think is that he rellay wants to change Amerika.
he wants to change everything so that it can be a better future for the people.

2. I think that barack Obama is a verry good speaker he knows what people want to hear.
He wants people to know that if they dissagre with something that he will listen to them.
I think that he is trying to convay trust, he wants people to trust him that he can make America better.

3.He wants to fight for the future . He dosen't want to look back, he means that if we always go back to how it were then we cannot change and grow like a nation.

At a time when women´s voices were silenced and their hopes dismissed, she lived to see them stand up and speak out and reach for the ballot. yes we can.

I dont know why i picked this part of the text, i just feel like this text is powerfull somehow.
i think it is nice of him to think about the women how they have struggled for their rights and belives.

Obama´s victory speech

I think the main message of his speech is the future, how he wants to change everything to the better and a change is allways good. Every decision he makes now will effect the future and that’s why I think he is the best man to make those choices. He has new ideas and he seams very ambitious and devoted to what he wants to achive. He comes with fresh and new ideas and that’s what people want, america needs a leader who will guide them throw the bad times and hopefully the good once will come.

He talks loud and clear, with confidence in his voice. You can hear that he is beaing sincere, like he really means what he is talking about. He talks about history and important subjects that most of the American people know about so they really listen and agrees with him and they even repeat after him sometimes.

That the past maybe wasn´t the best and that the government haven´t made the best decisions. People has suffered for bad decision that have been made but now that he is president he is going to try to make everything better, we maybee wont agree whith every decision he makes but at least he will try and he will listen to what people has to say.

“it´s been along time coming, but tonight, becauce of what we did on this date in this election at this defining moment, change has come to America”

I like this part becauce it sums up everything that happened the night Obama got elected. A cuple of years ago no one could see this day come, an african american as president. I think all the black people who tought that they never would become something big in their life has know been given hope and proudness. It´s not only because he is black, he seems like a good and honest person that is ready to lead them the way.

Well, now that Obama has won and everybudy has high hopes of him, and they think of him like some kind of god, what will happened if he makes a tiny little mistake, how will people react? Will they be understanding? or will they think "oh, no we got another George Bush"

Barack Obama's victory speech

The main message of the speech, in my opinion, is that America can change, and that it can change to a much better America. It has changed many times before to the better, and that it's never impossible to make it even better than it maybe already is.
And that he will listen to everybody and what they have to say about anything, no matter what they are, how they look etc. Even to those that didn't cast their vote on him.
And also that the people of America is going to help him make a difference, especially now when there is a financial crisis in the country.

How I think he conveys the people is that he starts by saying that if there is anyone out there who still questions the power of their democracy, they will get their answer tonight. (At the election night when he spoke after his victory).
He's got a special tone in his voice that shows he is very serious and very convincing about that he is going to make a change, a difference for the people of America and for America.
And he also has a serious face expression and he makes gestures with his hands that also, in some way, shows he really means what he says and that he has a strong belive in it.

The part I chose in his speech was when he spoke and told the people about an old, black woman who, despite her age, voted.
The old woman named Ann Nixon Cooper is 106 years old and was born a generation past slavery. A time where she wasn't aloud to vote because she was a woman and because of the color of her skin.
She was there to witness the changes America has been through in hard and tough times and she knows that trough all, America can still change no matter what problem they face, and will continue to do so together as a nation.
I chose it because it means a lot to know that someone who has been trough so much and through all the changes and can tell us about it, knows that it will always be able to make a difference no matter how difficult or dark the times are there and Ann Nixon Cooper is a witness of all that.
It tells me that nothing is impossible no matter how hopeless it seems at the time.
If a person still has hopes that something or anything can always be better, despite how bad a situation may seem, and belives in it very hard and much, a change will come.

Barack Obama´s victory

The main message of his speech was that they had come so far and seen so much. Barack wants them to ask their selves , if they can change so much so theirs childrens will live and see the next century. He want that their children will see what change they are going too do. He want the people to think that they can do more than they had done before, and think about how it's now and what they will do in the future, he also says that he can't make that whitout the people.

Barack attract the people by saying that they still have chance to change America, and it will be better for all of us. He want us to think better and don't be unfair and that we have to treat people like we want to be treat. He also say that he will support those who seek peace and security. Barack give them more hope that they thought they had.

Barack tells us about a woman who is 106 years old she lived a time there they had slavery and they have no cars . she couldn't vote because she was a woman and because of the color of her skin. She lived so long to see womens stand of and speak out. Now people don't trear the colored people like they did before.
¨ there is new energy to harness and new jobs to be created; new school to build and threats to meet alliances to repair ¨.
I think that he mean that he will change much and help people by creat new jobs and more children will come in to schools that will builds.

¨America , we have come so far. We have seen so much. But there is so much more to do¨.
I picked that part because he says that he will change much and do more than had been made. It's so much to do and we can do it. It's not impossible. He want to pick up the American people from Iraq and from the mountains in Afghanistan. Barack want peace in America and he dont want do begin war between the countries.

Barack Obama's victory speech /by KKiara

1. Obama wants to delivery changes for the American people and give them hope for the future.

2. He says much good things about it and it will be a better America after the changes. He is a good speaker, calm, convincing and purposeful.

3. He told us about a 106 years old woman and her past and how her life have been until now. To be a woman and black. He also talked about his daughters and he wish that they can live to see the next century. He wants people back to work and open doors of opportuning for all kids. A world in peace.

The part in his speech that affected me personally it's when he talks about the wars that USA are involved in. He hopes that the wars comes to an end. I agree with his opinion, I hate wars because I want a peaceful world, I don't want to travle in a unsafe countries.

Barack Obama´s victory speech

The main message of this speech is that America is a place where every thing is possible. We want, we can and we should change America and even if it get´s hard it will happen.
Obama trys to convey the people by talking about what America has been through. He even talks about how they can change America in a good way so it can be a peacefull country. Obama is a great speaker. He persuade people when he talks to them, he shows them that they can trust him and he gives them hope and faith for a better America.
He talks a lot about Americas development, the progress it has made, the difference it has made and once again thay can succeed, thus changing America.

"it´s the answer spoken by young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Latino, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled - Americans who sent a message to the world that we have never been a collection of Red States and Blue States: we are always will be, the United States of America.
I like this part because Obama reches out to everyone in America. Thats really good because it feels like he talks to them personally and he makes a good relationship between them.

My question is: Do you think that Barack Obama can keep all his promises hi made?

by gjulsha op1b

Barack Obama's victory speech

I think that the main message of Obamas speech is that he wants to make a change in his country, he wants to make everything much better than it is, with the help of his people of course. He thinks that nothing is impossible and that they all can make everything so much better if they just work as one, for the same cause, to make America a better place to live in.

To convey his message about what I wrote above he spoke about a 106 year old woman who has lived through many generations and is still alive. She has seen America go from not having any cars in traffic, to being the country I think is the most succesful in the world. She has been there and seen it all. And so that is why he thinks that nothing is impossible, and that's why he also thinks that his people together can achieve even more, can make more changes, and improve the country so much more.

I have already written the references that he makes in the past, about how things were a hundred years ago, how we have went from women not being allowed to vote, to how we are today, when everybody is allowed to speak out and say their own oppinions, and also vote of course. Now, it does not matter what color you have on your skin, or if you are a man or a woman, you can change just as much as the other part anyway. That is proven as Obama became the first black president of the United States. It proves that America is headed the right way, and it is improving in so many ways. Colored people, if I can call them that, did not get along with white people at all before, since the majority of the black people in the US where slaves not that long ago, but now, they even choose a black man to be their president. That, I call a big improvement. And when it comes to the future, he asks what it is that we want our children to se when they get old, what progress we think that we have made until then. He can't do anything other then wonder when it comes to that. But it's not an easy way to go.

"And to those Americans whose support I have yet to earn – I may not have won your vote, but I hear your voices, I need your help, and I will be your President too." I think that it is very good of him to talk to those who didn't support him in the election aswell, even though they didn't want him as a president. He says that he hears what they have to say too, and that he will listen to them, cause they are also a part of the American people. Thats a great thing of him to do.
"The road ahead will be long. Our climb will be steep. We may not get there in one year or even in one term, but America - I have never been more hopeful than I am tonight that we will get there. I promise you - we as a people will get there." This part really touches me. Cause he is really honest with what he thinks, and honest about how he thinks the road to a better America will be. He knows that it wont be easy, and does not say that he will make it, but that they as a people will. He's just great.

My question to you is, do you think that Obama will make an improvement in America? Why/why not?

Barack obama`s victory speech

Barack obama try to speak and give them hope for the future. He told them hwo it was for many years ago in America and what many thinks has been changed know and gona be chansed in the future. And how long America has come. He promise the peoplea a much better world and state to the children a big future and that every think can happen in America. He give hope to the homelesspeople and other possibilityto big expectation for the comunity. He showed that America can be changed because he belive on what he said. He talked away that give people safety and peace the way talk. And he talk with confident.

When barack obama talk he dont just say the words and go. He talk with certainty that he can change America. And know that America can becam a big state of peace and safety place there he can kepp his promises. And he give the people faith and hope. Barack obama knows hwo to let the people belive him. He talk with faith and with a way that make everyone belive him and understand him. He make everyone intrested and want to help him to begin change the state. That is the special way he maked avaryone belive him that he can reach the comunity.

He talk about the past and talked hwo it was. And he cant do anything for it, we can just make it much better in the future for our children and people. He want that the past never came again. And know that he can change America and he want it to be better. He want to work together with the people to make usa good state with peace and succes. And he want to let everything be right because if he do a little mistake it can change the future everything hold up to him. He hope that the futurebecan much better and hope for every child and every man and women. And he will do the best he can to make the people dreams and hope comes true.

I liked the part when he told about one women who had many difficulties in her live. and that she maked everything to becam one of the people in this country. Obama tried to tell every women that she have a hopefull life and that every women can do alot of thinks to have a better future. And where ever she comes from or how she loke she can fit in her community and have a big future who ever she is.

why do you think the people like him and vote for him??

1.Answer: that the United States and the people should be more just, more equal, more free and more prosperous.

2.Answer: he tries to convey the message with honesty and clearly so that people understand what he means and know how it feels when he speaks before hundreds of people.

3.Answer:he wants to try to do everything better than before, particularly such as politics and the country. He adapt really a better future for the country.

I find that part: "even as we stand here tonight, we know there are brave Americans waking up in the deserts of Iraq and the mountains of Afghanistan to risk their lives for us."

in this part, I felt it was very good to say of him, because he was thinking of other Americans who are outside one's exclusive territory but hear what he says, but in a way, it was too bad to say of him, he would not name the countries, there are many who take it as insults, and he has indeed spoken of the right wisdom and that all are equally worthy, and all other people living in "desert" is also equally significant.

Barack Obama's victory speech.

I believe in him and hope that this dream will come true one day. I think that the most important in this message is that he has a hope for a better country and a better life in USA.He want a country where it dosen't matter if you are white or black, porr or rich, disabled or not disabled it dosen't matter. He has met so many people who are in the same situation where he was when he was younger. He dosen't do this for his own good, he really want that this people will reach up to their dreams together not alone. He is not the most important in this country, he mean that the people are the most important and this is their vote and choice. People says that America is a place where all things are possible, Barack want to show that this dream can come true if everybody strain themselves and it's the main message in this speech I think.

He is a very good speaker and it is easy to understand him. He don't use many difficult words which is good. He try to convey this message with honest and with his own feelings. He talked about a old woman as name is Ann Nixon Cooper who vote this year because she belive that this time can be changes. He try to talk to people and ask them what they are thinking and he spoked about this in his speech. Thats how I think he convey this message.

He want to live for the future and for the new opportinitys. He dosen't want to go back to the past and talk about what happend then, he mean that if we always go back to how it were then we cannot change and grow like a nation.

This is the part I liked best: "The road ahead will be long. Our climb will be steep. We may not get there in one year or even one term, but America- I have never been more hopeful than I am tonight that we will get there. I promise you- we as a people will get there".

I picked this part because I think that especially this part came from his heart and he want to inform the people that this change cannot happen in one year or more. We have to wait and work for it so it can be a change. Everybody has to help everybody because no one can do this alone. He has a honest in his heart and don't want to lie to the people. I liked this very much about him. He dosen't say that we will change this country in one day, he maybe believe in this but it is not possible and he knows this. He have spoken to so many people and he knows that this is not an easy thing and the best about him is that he will face the truth.

Barack Obama's victory speech

I think that the message of the speech is that Barack Obama will get going on a job with U.S. He still has a hope and he wants to fight for the country and make it a good place where people can be safe. Many people mean that he has a big job to do. It's about the big budget deficit and an economic crisis. He wants to expound on his views.

Obama convey his speech through the TV, the radio and the magazine, but above all he convey it trough the magazine. You can find a lot of fact about Obama on Internet too. Many people are happy that he won the election and they feel safe with a new president who will improve the country.

He thinks about the past and he really want to do everything better than it has been done before. He want his dream to come true and get people to start believe that U.S. is a place where everything is possible. Obama wants to change the people's view of the U.S.

I think that this part appeals to my personally: "If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things is possible; who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time; who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer." I choose this part because I think that Barack Obama is a very good person who wants the best for the people and I really agree with Obama. I also want the best for the people and I want to live in a world where all people are treated the same.

My opinions on the Obama speech.

The main message in this speech is change. I get happy when I hear the word change, and especially in this context. Because in most cases it stands for something good and great. And that is exactly what America needs right now. They need someone to make a difference. To strengthen the week links of the big machine that we call USA. If America is too become a much greater country. A more secure and a more equal place than it is today, and have been for the last eight years. It will need a truly devoted leader. And that is what America will get. Obama talks a lot about change. And I think that is the biggest reason to why he was elected president. Because that is what people need. Some needs hope and some needs a new lifestyle. This change will benefit the poor. Because as I see it, today’s America is heaven for the rich and hell for the poor. The rich have money to pay their health insurance, and therefore they are the ones that get the best medical treatment. While the poor have to give up many things, just so that they can pay for medical bills that costs a fortune. I believe that this will get better. Because Obama cares. I hope that he will do everything he can to change this. Because it´s a big part of what in America that needs changing.

"Let us remember that if this financial crisis taught us anything, it´s that we cannot have a thriving Wall Street while Main Street suffers."

He gives his audience a sense of calm and safety. He gives people hope and faith. He gives promises of change and welfare. This is how he reaches out to people. He tells them what they need to hear. And not just because he can. It´s because he believes in it himself. When he sais "America can change", I truly believe it´s something from the heart. Not just something he says. It shows that he wants this just as much as the people. Sometimes when politicians gives speeches, young people doesn’t really hear what that are saying. But Obama speaks in a way that everybody understands. His language is easy to comprehend and his choice of words are remarkably right. The young people of America gets interested when they hear him speak, and that is really important.

"It´s been a long time coming, but tonight, because of what we did on this day, in this election, at this defining moment, change has come to America."

"This victory alone is not the change we seek - it is only the chance for us to make that change. And that cannot happen if we go back to the way things were."
I think he means that if change shall happen, it´s important not to fall back into old habits. The past is the past and it wasn´t all that good. But it is nothing we can do about that now. All we can do is to make sure it won´t be like that ever again.
"If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible; who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time; who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answerer."
I think he means that it is up to right now if America is going to change. We can always do better than we did before, and we can always hope that the future will be as flawless as it can be. But it´s right now that is important. It is what we do now that matters. If we act wrong now it can change our future prospects. So no matter of what was or what is yet to come, it´s what we do now that counts.
"The road ahead will be long. Our climb will be steep. We may not get there in one year or even in one term, but America - I have never been more hopeful than I am tonight that we will get there. I promise you - we as a people will get there."
By this he means that he believes that change will come. That they will get there in time but it will also take time. It´s not something you just do. It is a working progress that will need time to develop into a better society. He will do his best to make this come true. And if the time he has as president isn´t enough, then he will try to make it anyway. It is his believes that change will come sooner or later. But hopefully sooner.

" It`s the answerer spoken by young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Latino, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled - Americans who sent a message to the world that we have never been a collection of Red States and Blue States: we are, and always will be, the United States of America."
This part felt good to hear. Because America have had a lot of racial barriers. And it finally starts to feel like it will get better. The fact that the president sees the people as a unit and not as divided individuals, gives hope for other people to start seeing things from the same point of view.

"To those who would tear this world down - we will defeat you. To those who will seek peace and security - we support you."
This part must give the Americans some peace. Because now they know that they will have a president who will do anything too make America a secure and peaceful place. He wants what`s best for the country and that is a good thing to know.

"A preacher from Atlanta told a people that "We Shall Overcome." Yes we can."
The first word that popped up in my head when I read this part was hope. The part, we shall overcome, meaning America. It means that America as a people will triumph and win back that things they ones lost. Just because it didn´t happen then, doesn´t mean that it can´t happen now. As Obama said himself. Yes we can.

My question: Do you think Obama won because of who he is and because of his determination, or did he win just because the people didn´t want another George W. Bush?
