Homework: Obama's victory speech Thursday, November 6, 2008

Your homework is to read and listen to Barack Obama's victory speech (click on the link to read and listen) and write a post in the blog where you discuss the following:

What is the main message (main idea) of the speech, in your opinion?

Explain how and give examples of how Obama tries to convey this message. (What strategies does he use in his speech to reach his audience?)

What references does he make in his speech to the past, to the present and to the future? Why do you think he uses these particular references?

Find one part (or several parts, if you want) of the speech that appeals to you personally. It could be a part that particularly interests you, moves you, puzzles you, surprises you or a part that raises questions. Quote the part in your post. Explain why that particular part appeals to you, why you chose it and what it tells you.

Also I would like you to ask/raise one question in your post in relation to the speech. The question could be about something that you did not understand or that you would like to hear someone else's opinion on. Write a comment to someone else's question using the commentary button.

The deadline for your post is Tuesday November 11, at 10 pm (22:00)

Good luck :) Please use the commentary button to this post if you have any questions.
