Grammar test coming up Tuesday, September 30, 2008

We have decided that there will be a grammar test Wednesday, 8 October. Tomorrow I will give you some sentences to correct. It's my favorite exercise. Some of the sentences are pretty hilarious, actually. Madrid is an incredible city, by the way :)

Bang bang Wednesday, September 17, 2008

Today we listened to the song Bang Bang by Nancy Sinatra. Check her out singing the song on YouTube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5Xl0Qry-hA
I had spent some time cutting the lyrics into "pieces" and before we listened we tried to reconstruct the lyrics to the song. It's quite a fun exercise because it makes you think about language, story telling and song writing all at the same time. You all figured out different clues. The rhymes, the chorus, the storyline and the chronology of the lyrics could help you make sense of the mess I made.. Well done!
Tomorrow I will give you the final part (4) of the grammar and we will also set up a date for the grammar test. Then I will be off to Madrid, Spain, for a few days to watch my favorite "Rafa" play tennis. It will be awesome. I can't wait! I will be back for your next English class though - no worries.

How to register and how to use the English A blog www.english0809.blogspot.com

· Open up Internet Explorer and go to: www.google.se
· In the top right-hand corner click “logga in”
· Then click “skapa ett konto nu”
· Then type your e-mail address (a Hotmail address or any address that you use will do) + a password (lösenord)
· Confirm your password by typing it again
· Type “ordverifiering” (copy the weird letters in the box)
· Click “Jag godkänner. Skapa mitt konto”
· Close the page.
· Go to your e-mail account and check that you have received an e-mail from Google. Click on the link in the e-mail that says “verifiera konto”.
· Give me your e-mail address so that I can invite you as a co-writer to the blog. You will soon receive an e-mail of invitation. Click on the link “acceptera inbjudan” in that e-mail.
· Type your “visningsnamn” in the box. This will be the name that other people can see when you write in the blog. Use your first name if you like or make up a name for yourself.
· Click on “visa blogg” if you want to see the blog or “nytt inlägg” if you want to write something in there.
Now you are a co-writer of this class blog and so are your classmates in OP1B.

How to find the blog later:
Go to: www.english0809.blogspot.com and click “logga in”. Then type your e-mail address + your password (the one you used when you created your Google account above)
OR go to: www.blogger.com and type your e-mail address + your password (the one you used when you created your Google account above)

The blog will be used for English class. I will post important notes as well as other fun stuff but the really cool thing is that you can write in there as well! You can ask each other questions, write down your thoughts or have a discussion. At the same time you will be practising your English. Feel free to ask me questions as well in there!
Happy blogging! :)

More members Thursday, September 11, 2008

Today we added more members to the class blog! I think it is going to be a lot of fun and I hope that you will take the chance to write in here. No worries -just play around with it at first. I also handed out grammar review 3 which is your homework for Wednesday 17 Sep. A couple of people showed up late for today's class and you know I really don't like that. Please be on time from now on. It's not that hard. Some did not show up for class at all - which is even worse. Make sure you pick up your homework for Wednesday. See you then!

Tomorrow you will be co-writers Wednesday, September 10, 2008

I have arranged so that I will be able to make everyone in the class a co-writer to this blog! Tomorrow we will set up your individual accounts and hopefully you will find the blog both useful and fun. It takes a while getting used to, but once you have tried posting a couple of times and received feedback it is addictive.
We have now finished half of the grammar review. There will be a total of 4 grammar handouts and later we will schedule a date for a test. Make sure you ask all of the questions you might have and I will do my best to answer them. See you in class tomorrow morning!

Two readers at least Sunday, September 7, 2008

The English A blog has got at least two readers in the class ;) I suspect there are more of you, though and that's what I am hoping for. I was thinking that I should invite all of you in the class to become co-writers of this blog. That way you can all post your own entries in here and it will be more of a class-blog on equal terms. What do you think? I just started a blog in my Swedish B class where all of the students can contribute. It is going to be a lot of fun!
Don't forget your homework for Wednesday - grammar review 2. Please be well prepared for the class and let me know if you have any questions, ok?

One tennis star and many student stars Wednesday, September 3, 2008

This is the tennis player I keep talking about. He won the gold medal in the Olympics and he has won quite a few major tennis tournaments this year, including Wimbledon.
His name is Rafael Nadal and he is from Mallorca, Spain. He is number 1 on the world tennis ranking right now and he is my absolute favorite! The reasons for that are that besides being "easy on the eye" (that means good-looking) he is a true fighter who never ever gives up! Even though he is having a bad day on court and everything seems to be going against him he keeps his focus and his spirits up. I am not sure how he does it but I admire him for that!

If you think about your studies the same way "Rafa" plays tennis you will all be stars like him - all in your own ways :)

Thanks for being polite and attentive students today. I will tell you it is great being a teacher when your students act like that. I hope you feel like posting a comment in here. Don't be shy! It's fun.

See you tomorrow!

Have you ever... Tuesday, September 2, 2008

In last week's class you all got to answer some "Have you ever..." questions. Here are some new (and old) ones.
Please share your stories with the class! Only include the information you feel comfortable with and be careful with names...

Have you ever...

  1. fallen in love at first sight?
  2. played a joke on one of your teachers or your classmate/s?
  3. received a present that you really hated?
  4. fainted?
  5. hitch-hiked?
  6. received a love letter?
  7. been to a country where you did not know the language?
  8. given a false excuse to get out of something you did not want to do?
  9. sung in public?
  10. bought something you really regretted?
